in Hearing Aids from WIDEX
BANGOR, ME – The Warren Center is the recipient of six pediatric hearing aids
from the WIDEX Hearing Aid Company of Long Island City, New York. The hearing
aids, with a stated retail value of $10,594.00, will be used as loaners for
our pediatric clientele. The center currently has loaner hearing aids which
are five or more years old. MaryBeth Richards, Program Director at the Warren
Center says that, “The old hearing aids are in need of repair or may need
to be replaced completely.”
The loaners are borrowed by clients, at the Warren Center, while they wait
for their own to be made or repaired. The new hearing aids will allow more
clients, from age 6 months to 18 years of age, to be able to hear while this
is taking place.
Often clients wait one day to several weeks to receive a loaner. It is unfortunate
when a patient is unable to have amplification for school or home use.
The program will allow more school age children to receive hearing aid
loaners.
Richards say, “Our goal is to have all children who are seen and are in
need of hearing aids at the Warren Center to have access to a loaner
for the duration
of the waiting time for their first aids as well as when those aids need
to be repaired or refitted. This donation puts us farther ahead in that
plan.”
The Warren Center is one of only two audiology centers in Bangor who
work with pediatric patients. In 2004-2005 the center saw 265
preschool (ages
0-5) patients,
and 200 school age (ages 6-21) patients for Audiology services.
