Why come to Bangor, Maine for work?

Because the play is so much more fun than anywhere else!

The Warren Center is located in Maine’s Queen City, Bangor. First settled in 1769, the city has grown to its current population of about 60,000 people. Bangor has retained the charm which drew people to it during the height of its glory in the logging days. Historic Victorian homes still dominate its waterfront and city streets - the Warren Center is located in one of the city’s historic districts, next to the historical society building and beautiful Isaac Farrar Mansion, owned and maintained by the YWCA.

We are approximately an hour’s drive from the rugged coast of Acadia National Park, and only one and a half hours from Baxter State Park and the highest point of Maine’s Appalachian Trail. The area is richly forested and scenic. Lakes, rivers and streams provide countless opportunities for fishing, canoeing, kayaking and whitewater rafting while the thick forest is perfect for hiking, hunting and camping. Of course, skiing, sailing, golf, leaf-peeping, apple picking and sledding (especially on Bangor’s dramatic Essex Street Hill) are all activities
to look forward to.

Bangor is home to the nation’s oldest symphony, has a dynamic arts community, including an annual outdoor summer Shakespeare festival, year-round professional theatre, sports events and entertainment at the Bangor Civic Center and the Maine Center for the Performing Arts, on the University of Maine’s flagship campus in nearby Orono. Bangor is home to many art galleries and fine restaurants offering a range of cuisine from fish and chips and peppersteaks to tapas and modern fusion cuisine. In addition, there are Thai, Indian, Pakistani, Italian, Greek, Chinese, Mexican and Japanese specialty restaurants right in town, several within walking distance of the Warren Center in Bangor’s charming downtown.
