Warren Center Staff Visit the State House

On May 5, 2003, we went to Augusta to join other people and organizations committed to speech and hearing in Maine.

The Maine Speech Language and Hearing Association gathered folks together in the Hall of Flags in the Maine Capitol Building to give out information and build awareness of the importance of hearing and speech services.

Colleen Nilan, Amy Bragg, Cindy Phinney, Mary Poulin and Monique Gibouleau spent the day talking to the men and women of the legistature and the general public as they passed through the Hall of Flags.

As you can see, Amy even got to chat with the Governor!

We're very proud here at the Warren Center because we have four Warren Center staff members working for MSLHA.
They are:

Amy Bragg, VP External Affairs

Cindy Phinney, Secretary

Amanda Samoluk, Audiology

Colleen Nilan, Hospital/Clinic Practice

Governor Baldacci is watching his inaugural speech - well - actually he's watching the opening of his speech read by a speech-language pathologist with a fiber-optic camera down her nose which took pictures of the inside of her throat while she was speaking. The Governor thought that it looked kind of like some alien being trying to talk to us.

The Maine Speech-Language and Hearing Association, MSLHA for short (but pronounced m-sha, because even speech people know it's too complicated the other way...), is an organization which gives support to Maine speech-language pathologists and audiologists.

MSLHA helps to get the word out about the importance of speech, hearing and good communication by creating events like this one at the state house in Augusta to raise awareness. They even gave out CHATTERY TEETH to those who visited us - they were a big hit with the members of many legislative committees, who were apparently playing with them during the day's committee meetings.
